ORGANICS - Consumer Lifestyle Choices Mean Organic Grower Opportunities
By Chris Simas, Tremont Group Organic Specialist
There was a time many years ago when the jury was still out about whether or not organic growing was just a fad or if it was “the real deal”. That question has been answered, and answered loudly - it IS the real deal and provides great opportunities for organic growers to meet rising consumer demand.
A recent study from the University of California at Davis shows that organically grown fruits have higher oxidant levels. Consumers want to know that their food was grown and processed in a manner that is consistent with their views on ecology and the environment.
Organics fill that bill and are a growing segment of the retail food market, a trend with no end in sight for the foreseeable future. This translates to significant crop production opportunities for growers already in the organic farming business and conventional growers considering committing some of their acreage to organics.
Organic growing is also a safe growing environment for workers. I enjoy taking my kids with me out to my fields and not having to be concerned about any residual insecticide effects.
I especially enjoy my role as TGI’s “organic expert.” I work out of our Agriform Division in Woodland to support all three of our agri-service divisions with organic grower needs and services.
Adding value for organic grower success is relatively new for the Temont Group, but it is now a major focus which is receiving the resources needed to make us a leader in the organic farming agri-service industry as well. We have complete product lines of organic nutrients and pest management products, along with the knowledge of what it takes to be a successful, certified organic grower.
So whether you’re already an established organic grower or a conventional grower considering getting into Organics, give me a call. I look forward to assisting you every way I can.
